With a background in communications, Alana Kirk is a seasoned media contributor. 


A prominent motivational speaker at events and for companies, she has also had guest slots on shows on a number of major Irish and UK TV and radio stations including the BBC’s Woman's Hour; RTE Radio 1’s Brendan O’Connor Show, Ray Darcy Show, Clare Byrne and Drive Time; and Newstalk’s Pat Kenny Show, Sean Moncreiff and Breakfast Show.

She spent two years as the book reviewer on RTE One’s Seoige Show and appeared as a guest on The Tommy Tiernan Show in 2023. 

Alana is a regular podcast guest, including recently on Sile Seoige’s Ready to be Real and Claire McKenna’s Alive & Kicking.

Alana is a regular contributor to the Independent’s Modern Moral column, and writes occasional features for the paper’s Health and Lifestyle section. 

She has also written for The Irish Times, Women’s Way, The Daily Mail and The Examiner.

Her first book, The Sandwich Years, a memoir of love, loss and dirty dishes, became an Irish Times best seller. Her latest book, Midlife, redefined: Better, Bolder, Brighter, has been highlighted on radio, TV and media across Ireland.

Alana’s previous roles included Director of Fundraising and Communications with Barnardos, and Deputy Director of UNICEF Ireland. 

Alana speaks passionately about the context of women’s lives and how to manage the pressures and embrace the potential. She also speaks with honesty about her divorce, her own story caring for her mum after a stroke, and the ups and downs of living in this unique time for women as we transition away from patriarchy towards a world where we can live valiantly and vibrantly with equity and balance, free from the external narratives that constantly tell us who and how we should be.
